About Dan
Dan “Brixton” Lavache is a drummer, studio engineer & producer. He plays drums for Surf Out, Take Away The Ugly, Strangers In Tune and many others throughout a 20 year long spree of live and studio playing. He’s a session drummer as well and you can catch up with him on his site: dlavache.com
Envy Drums
The concept of the sit down drummer didn’t seem fitting for Surf Out. Instead, Dan plays on a Stand-up 1950’s Styled Cocktail Kit. Lovingly crafted by the ever so amazing Envy Drums of Orange County, California. Please do check them out!
This unique Envy drum kit features a special minimalist setup, which keeps everything contained in a single case. Each drum has hand made wood hoops, along with reinforced edges – making a very BIG sound come out of a small drum. A special fabricated kick pedal is used, which is an exact duplicate of Dan’s sit-down kit, while each shell is wrapped in a sharp, vintage black and gold accent.
“I don’t think I knew what I was in for when I tried this kit. After the first session, Chris and I where dumbfounded at how much energy it takes to stand on one foot and play standing up. Now do that for an hour and don’t forget those fills!.. Hahaha.. After about 3 months, I went on to play my first show with it, and the audience was beside themselves. Everyone had to get a look at this kit. Sounds amazing, holds up perfect and LOOKS epic! I love this drum kit and it’s one of a kind!”
Engineering & Producing
Dan is known for his retro approach to recording, producing and documenting bands. He studied and trained at IAR in 1998 (Institute of Audio Research, Manhattan NYC) and closely relates to a more Glynn Johns styled method of capturing the band as they truly are.
He runs & operates La’Moo Studio in Mt Pocono PA, where a great many bands have visited, sessioned and recorded. His studio is equipped with both analog and digital recorders and you can book studio/recording/mastering time with him via his site: http://dlavache.com
